What makes a correction useful

Reports that an estimate was wrong are the most valuable thing we receive, and the ones we can act on all look the same: they say what the item was, what the estimate said, and what it actually sold for, with a link to the completed sale. That last part is what separates a correction from an opinion. Without it we cannot tell whether the estimate was wrong or the sale was unusual.

If a guide or a rate table is out of date, tell us which page and which figure. Marketplace fees change without much warning and a stale number on a calculator is worse than no calculator, so those reports get fixed quickly.

What we cannot do

We cannot authenticate an item, issue a written valuation, or tell you whether a specific buyer is trustworthy. For authentication and formal appraisals, the about page explains when a specialist is worth paying and the category pages name the kind of specialist each category needs. We also cannot mediate a dispute between a buyer and a seller on a marketplace: those have their own processes and they work better than anything we could offer.
